Are you traveling without car or would you like to leave it parked from time to time? No problem! The municipality of Eching is not only conveniently located near Autobahn 9 and 92, but also has excellent access to public transportation. In addition there are numerous other ways to stay mobile. In this article, you will learn how to reach your destinations in the region conveniently and cost-effectively without your own car.

Public transport

Eching is connected to short and long-distance transport by bus and suburban train (line 1). In addition, subway station Garching-Hochbrück (line 6) can be reached quickly by bus or bicycle.

The app provided by the Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV) is recommended for using all public transportation. It offers timetable information, mobile tickets and other functions and information for using buses, the subway, suburban trains and streetcars in the greater Munich area - often in real time.

Tip: If you use the public transport system more than twice a day, a single day ticket is usually the cheapest option. If you make a lot of journeys within a week or a month, the IsarCard (weekly or monthly ticket) is cheaper than several one-way or single day tickets.

When purchasing an IsarCard or single day ticket, you must choose which tariff zones you intend to travel in. Eching is located in tariff zones 2 and 3. For example, if your destination is in Munich City Center, you will need zones M-2. If you are only traveling between Eching and the airport, you will need zones 3-5.

Carpooling

Get in and ride along: Perhaps a carpool is the perfect mobility solution for you. You may be able to find someone among your colleagues to travel with. Otherwise, online platforms can help with finding a ride.

With over 8 million registered users, BlaBlaCar is the largest carpooling platform in Germany. So there's a good chance of finding a suitable ride. The app is aimed at commuters as well as anyone who needs a ride for a one-off, longer journey.

The concept of the platform Fahrgemeinschaft.de is more like a bulletin board: anyone who drives a route once or regularly can advertise on the site. Interested parties can then get in touch. If you just want to find a ride, you don't necessarily have to register. Many listings include an e-mail address or telephone number that can be used to contact the driver directly. The driver and the passengers negotiate the conditions between themselves. Bessermitfahren.de or the Pendlerportal work in a very similar way.

Employees at Business Campus Unterschleißheim, Business Campus Garching and TUM Garching may find the App of Ridebee helpful. The Munich-based start-up is developing a platform for companies and organizations that enables their employees to easily organize their commute.

Carsharing

There are two car sharing providers in Eching.

The StadtTeilAuto Freising club has been present in Eching for some time with a vehicle at the Huberwirt in Untere Hauptstr. 1, which can be booked by App, telephone or online. Before you can use a StadtTeilAuto, you must become a member.

Things are a little easier with the car sharing provider Miles, which has been present in Eching since the end of 2023. Since then, Eching residents have access to a fleet of around 10 vehicles that can be located, reserved and unlocked via App. In contrast to StadtTeilAuto, the vehicle can be parked anywhere in the business area after use at no extra cost. In addition to Munich and some suburbs, this area also includes the city of Augsburg.

Bicycle / E-bike

In January 2023, Eching was officially recognized as a bicycle-friendly municipality. Many destinations in the surrounding area, such as Unter- / Oberschleißheim, Neufahrn or Garching, can be reached safely and in some cases more quickly by bike than by public transport. We therefore recommend that all guests bring their own bike if possible! You can park your bike free of charge in our electronically secured bike room in the underground garage.

The tour planners from Komoot or Outdooractive can help you find the best route. Both also offer an App, which can be used free of charge in the basic version.

Leihradsystem

At the moment, it is a little difficult to rent a bike in Eching. However, this should soon improve, as several municipalities in the north of Munich are planning to set up a rental bike system with around 300 pedelecs (bicycles with an electric auxiliary motor), including Eching. Virtual rental stations are to be set up at several locations by the end of 2024.

Tip: If you can't take your own bike with you, it may make sense to buy an inexpensive bike for longer stays in Eching. Have a look at kleinanzeigen.de, for example, or ask in one of the Eching Facebook groups if anyone has one to give away.

Taxi

Finally, you have the option of calling a cab. Simply dial 22456* from any German mobile network. You will automatically be connected to the nearest taxi dispatch center.

Just as uncomplicated is calling a cab via App. Here you have plenty of choice again. We would like to recommend the Taxi Deutschland App. It is easy to use and well structured. Registration is not necessary, only your name and telephone number must be entered before the first order. Once a cab has been found, the passenger is informed by message and can view the cab's route and waiting time on the map. The Taxi Deutschland App is operated by the Taxi Unions in Germany. Unlike alternatives such as Taxi.eu or FREENOW, the cab driver receives 100% of the fare.
